In this age of digital media, more and more auditions are being requested through self-taping. Help your child achieve great audition tapes by learning how to be technologically savvy and knowing what is expected.  Casting happens much faster these days because of the Internet so prepare yourself and be ready! You will also work with actual copy & learn how to be the best reader to support your child in their self-tape auditions. Learn the different genres from Multi-cam comedy to the drama while working on pacing, rhythm, volume, and not stealing your child’s thunder

Just bring your camera or iPhone and an open mind.

Denise Simon

is a New York-based acting coach and career consultant who has been in the entertainment industry for more than 30 years as an actor, teacher, director, casting director, author and personal talent manager. She managed the careers of Scarlett Johansson, Academy Award winner Mira Sorvino, Lacey Chabert (“Party of Five”), and Judy Reyes (NBC’s “Scrubs”) among many other working young performers. She has coached hundreds of children and young adults appearing regularly on TV, film, and Broadway with students appearing in Matilda, The Lion King, Mary Poppins, Les Miserables, among others.

She is the author of Parenting in the Spotlight: How to Raise a Child Star Without Screwing Them Up and The Audition Journal.

Denise consults on the business of show business and serves on expert panels with The Actors Fund Looking Ahead and SAG-AFTRA. Her tips and insights on acting and auditioning for children and young adults have been featured in Backstage Magazine and are published in Backstage.com.

Imagine yourself in an audition. You may be reviewing a monologue or reciting lines from a scene as you nervously wait to be called in. While preparing, you remind yourself of the notes that you were given by your acting coach. Once in the audition room, you slate and perform your monologue or scene. What happens next is the wild card. The panel of casting, film, and/or TV directors might smile and say, “Thank you, next!” Or they may give you direction and adjustments. In order to take the direction given, you need to have the foundational skills to act and the ability to understand the language and concepts. A casting director or director expects the actor to be trained and ready for the role they’re auditioning for. To succeed in your audition, you need to understand the differences between working with coaches and directors, and the notes you’ll receive from both.
